What's your name again?

When I was a child, my mother would enjoy telling me, "You know, we almost named you Martha? Martha Jean. We were going to call you Marty!" She knew how much I cringed at the thought.

I was always glad not to have the name, as it just didn't seem to suit me, or so I thought.

The reality is that throughout my entire life I have been convicted by myself and others that I AM Martha. The sister who was more concerned with the domestic details, than sitting at the feet of Truth.

This double life was easier to manage before the two boys. But now, as a mother of two, I realize that all the nit picky details have about as much value as the moment they are relevant. As the boys grow and change, so do my compulsions, phobias and worries. Perhaps this is just a living account of my daily brushes with insanity; but somewhere in all the randomness of it, there are glimpses of God’s better plan.  All my attempts to control and plan the chaos are but a drop in the bucket.

For those who are also Martha minded in the kitchen, the "Martha’s Real Recipes" section of this blog is my little box of favorite dishes that are 1)delicious and attractive, 2) easy to make, and 3) can be easily doubled to feed 10-12 people--as large gatherings seem to happen at my house at least once a week.

Welcome! & Bon Appetit!--
